When your feet hurt, it feels like your whole body aches. Foot pain can slow you down and even interfere with your regular, everyday activities by hindering your movement. We provide a range of physiotherapy services, orthotics, massage therapy, and more to address a wide range of aches and pains.
Treating your foot pain depends on what’s causing the pain and where the pain is located on your foot. Your treatment may involve a combination of strengthening techniques, medication, physical therapy, or custom orthotics. We here at European Massage and Physiotherapy Center will work with you to find the treatment that suits you.
There are a variety of different types of foot pain that our Mississauga clinic treats including, but not limited to:
Heel Pain: Also known as plantar fasciitis, this type of pain is usually an irritation or inflammation of the band of tissue that connects your heel bone to your toes.
Heel Spurs: Caused by abnormal growths on the bottom of your heel, heel spurs can hurt while you walk or stand. If you have flat feet or high arches, you are more susceptible to painful heel spurs.
Ball Of The Foot Pain: This pain manifests in the ball of your foot and is usually caused by poorly-fitted shoes. You can also cause pain through strenuous activity like jumping or running.
Arch Pain: Plantar fasciitis and fallen arches are two types of arch pain. The former is the most common arch pain and can affect either the heel or the arch, or both. The latter causes pain when the feet flatten out.
Toe Pain: There are many different types of toe pain including gout, hammertoe, claw toe, ingrown toenails, corns and calluses, and toe sprain.
Foot Pain All Over: Sometimes you feel pain all over your foot. This can be caused by nerve damage or inflammation of the tendons.
There wasn’t one source as the cause of foot pain. Foot pain can be the result of:
Diseases: From infectious diseases to viruses to fungi and bacteria growth, this is a common cause of foot pain. In fact plantar warts are caused by a virus. Diabetes, lupus, gout, and rheumatoid arthritis can all contribute to foot pain.
Deformities: This is another common cause for foot pain. Examples of deformities include hammertoe, bone spurs, bunions, mallet toes, and claw toes.
Biomechanical Conditions: Abnormalities in your muscles or tendons, high arches, or flat feet can cause imbalances in your muscles, creating deformities and contributing to foot pain.
Improper Footwear: If your shoes are too tight or if you frequently wear high heels, you can develop foot pain. Too tight laces can lead to bruising on the top of your foot. Poorly fitted shoes can lead to blisters and Athlete’s foot in the short term. Long term effects of improper footwear include corns, bunions, calluses, and nerve and joint irritation.
Injuries: Taking a blow to the foot or twisting an ankle can lead to foot pain. Repetition of this type of foot pain can lead to a stress fracture.
